la-mexicanaIf there’s one thing Miami doesn’t have nearly enough of (besides courteous drivers), it’s Mexican food. West Coast transplants are all too familiar with guacamole withdrawal.
But Brickell is about to get a shiny new option with La Mexicana Cantina & Grill. And this spot isn’t just about tasty eats — it’s also shooting to be your local go-to for sports, drinks, and general debauchery.

“It is going to be a new exciting concept — a cantina, a place to hang, drink, party, and eat in a Mexican style, like a Mexican sports bar,” says owner Gerardo Barrera De Negri.

We got a sneak peek at the menu. The spot will serve lots of Mexican faves such as guacamole made to order ($9), tortilla soup ($6), burritos ($10), enchiladas verdes ($11), fajitas (veggie, $10; chicken, $11; or steak $12), and churros con chocolate ($5.90).

The full-page drink menu ranges from cocktails such as micheladas (beer, lime juice, and spicy sauce, $10) to coco pino margaritas (tequila, triple sec, pineapple juice, and coconut, $12) plus beer and wine.

We’re especially stoked about the $8 shooters, which sound like a recipe for a beautiful disaster, as well as the cucaracha (tequila and Kahlúa) and the bruja Mexicana (Patrón XO and Frangelico).

“We equipped the cantina with giant HD screens, 70-inch TVs, and a state-of-the-art club sound system,” Barrera De Negri says. “We also have a stage for live music.”
So come football season, La Mexicana will be Brickell’s new digs for watch parties and fiesta platters. Plus, there’ll be happy hour seven days a week featuring two-for-one drinks from 4 to 8 p.m.

“In Mexico, we are the owners of a chain of bars and a Mexican restaurant. We love Miami, and we think the diversity of cultures is great to generate a great ambiance,” he adds.
